Public transport

Buses are great for getting around when you can’t walk or cycle. We love to moan about buses, but what’s so bad about letting someone else drive while you chat, read, listen to music, or watch all the people waiting in a traffic jam whilst you cruise down a bus lane?

Buses carry loads of people, reducing congestion and carbon emissions. When you’re on the bus, look around and imagine how much road space you and your fellow passengers would need if you were all driving your own cars!

And buses are quick, often quicker than driving. Research has shown that people usually overestimate how long a bus journey takes, and underestimate how long the same journey takes by car. And of course you get to walk a bit when you travel by bus. Getting to and from the bus stop gives you exercise which, over the weeks and months, mounts up.

And let’s not forget trains and coaches. For those longer journeys they’re pretty crucial, and you can get to the train or coach station by foot, bike or bus, which makes a lot more sense than parking.
