Other ways to reduce car use

Sometimes you might feel that there's just no option but to use a car; perhaps you need to transport something heavy, or you need to travel at a time when there isn't any public transport. But that doesn't mean you have to use the car on your own, or even own the car.

If you only use a car occasionally, you could consider joining a car club. After all, leaving your car sitting outside your house most of the time is expensive, so why not just pay for a car when you actually use it?

If you drive to work every day, have you considered car-sharing? You could offer a lift to a colleague, or someone going the same way as you. This is a good way of sharing petrol costs and reducing the carbon emissions per person. And if you’re travelling further afield, why not offer a lift to others?

SuffolkCarShare is a free and easy-to-use website which helps match up people living in Suffolk making the same journeys. Car share to work and you could save a fortune – it’s a very simple way to reduce your fuel costs, ease congestion and do your bit for the environment. See the website above or call 01473 242518.
